Globo Drew's Guide to Chicago

Globo Drew’s Guide to Fun in Chicago, No Matter The Weather

Chicago truly does have something for almost every Travel & Tourism affinity’s needs, wants, desires, and objectives. Due to the Greater Chicago market’s urban, suburban & rural assets, attractions, entertainment & hospitality options, natural resources, and global business ecosystem; that along with Chicago’s central USA location on the Great Lake Michigan, one would be hard pressed to not find a vacation or business itinerary to one’s liking.

AFFINITY TOURISM OPTION IN CHICAGOLAND

There is a wide Variety of Affinity options in abundance throughout the Chicago Region, from Hiking + Biking, Camping and Glamping, Piano Bars to Maga Concert Venues, B&B’s to 5 Star Accomodations. However, in this article I will focus on the more urbane choices within Chicago’s borders.

The affinities covered will be those most appealing to adult leisure and post business travelers including Booze, Food, Theater, Music, Small to Mega Events, Lakefront attractions, and the necessary how to get around.

Spirit Beverage; nothing soft to read about here:

  • Craft Beer: Chicago is home to may a craft brewpubs and a few nationally successful craft breweries, such as:

    • Goose Island on the north branch of the Chicago River, at Daman,

    • Lagunitas from the west coast has a huge brewpub experience, on the westside just east of California Ave just south of Ogden Blvd, at the western edge of the CineSpace Chicago, CineSpace is the hughley successful film + TV production facility home to Dick Wolf’s Chicago Fire, Med, PD and former home of the mega hit Empire; as well as many top movies.

  • Craft Spirits: the most successful and those with tasting rooms and or tours are: Few Spirits, in Evanston; Koval, in Ravenswood on Chicago’s North side and CH Distillery in Chicago Booming Near Westside.

Division On the Rocks Jewel’s Food Store

  • Unique Spirit Experiences: One of the few things I personally love about Chicago, is Bars in Grocery stores.

    • My personal Cheers is Division On The Rocks, on the Mezzanine Level of the big Jewel’s Store at the corner of the near northside's Division + Clark St. Say hi to Laura if you visit. Enjoy the $5 all day Can of Brew + Shot Special.

    • Then there are all of Mariano’s stores from Evanston through the north to near west sides to the southside’s Bronzeville, which have Vino + Brew Bars; as well as Live Entertainment, if only a pianist.

  • Foo Foo La La Bars & Cocktail Lounges:

    • Chicago is a city full of every drinking aspiration imaginable, Tiki, Artisanal, there was an Absinthe Bar, Irish Pubs in abundance, Asian ethnic imbibing, Celebrity Bartenders, neighborhood bars (more my style), whiskey + whisky joints, Rum bars, several Tequila + Mezcal places, hidden + secret bars, Roof Tops galore. German + Swedish; I could go on but could not do the scene any justice. So I will save doing so for another article.

    • What Chicago is missing are places to dance and there were many. Thirty plus years of Sir Nose Devoid of Funk majors can do that to a city. The AfricanX hoods on the South side still have a few, catering to Stepping, House + HipHop.

    • With a few exceptions, I don’t do Foo Foo La La. Hey but today’s Foo Foo La La, will be tomorrow’s Dive!!! HaLayLurYah!!! Can I get an Amenzzz?!!!

Inside Falcon Lounge

  • Dive Bars (Cash Only, No Plastic): Cause I love them so much include:

  • My favorite Falcon Lounge on 53rd St East of the Metro station and Lake Park Ave, in the University of Chicago and the Obama’s Hyde Park Neighborhood.

  • Rossi’s on State St, just south of the Bar Row of Hubbard St., in River North

  • From the folks at Do312.com:

    • LIAR'S CLUB. This dive bar is a staple in Chicago rock history

    • BIG JOE'S 2 AND 6. Turtle racing and an array of low-priced drinks?

    • RAINBO CLUB. Liz Phair took her most memorable album cover behind these doors!

    • BIG CHICKS. This Uptown spot even has dollar burgers on Mondays so you can balance all your fun

    • Check out Do312, for the full list: https://do312.com/p/chicagos-best-dive-bars

Modern Fine Dining

Ethnic Eateries to Gourmet Dining to Carry Outs to: There is no secret Chicago is a foodie town and caters to almost every palate imaginable.

Cuisine:

  • Italian restaurants, are the #1 Ethnic Dining option in Chicago, but to make a long story short Little Italy, on Taylor Street, on Chicago Near West Side between Morgan St west of the U of Illinois main Chicago Campus, extending west to Ashland the eastern border of Chicago’s Medical District. The variety is from Sandwich shops to fine dining establishments; like Rosebud’s.

  • China Town: on Wentworth Ave between 26rh St on the south + to about 18th St on the north with Cermak and Archer running through, is a classic ChinaTown reminiscent of that of New York City, but about half the total size. There is a Pagoda style arch over the entrance to ChinaTown's main Street, which also has a big old association town hall, just like in the movies. Dining choices are from Good to Great.

  • Little Vietnam: on Argyle St in Uptown hosts a wide variety of mostly Vietnamese, but also Chinese and Korean Restaurants and Bakeries. There is also a Chinese Grocery Store, which I patronize, for raw nuts.

  • Greek Dining is for mostly part concentrated in a two block enclave on Halsted, just north of U of Illinois, Chicago, from Van Buren to Monroe, I have not been their for while but the Parthenon was my favorite, but there are others along that fastly gentifying strip.

  • India’s cuisine is in abundance from elegant fine dining to taxi meal stops, though mostly north of the river from River North to the Indian community along Devon Ave, which also has a great Indian Grocer.

  • AfricanX Cuisine aka Soul Food, is widely available, but you might as well experience the cuisine where its Ancestral culture has and does thrive, Bronzeville, about which I will go into more the the Cool neighborhood section.

    • Norm’s Bistro, though sporting a euro name, is a jewel, on 43rd Street east of Cottage Grove features Louisiana Creole and Nu Soul food iterations; along with great drinks; as well as Live Jazz + Blues, on weekends.

    • For Lunch + Early evening dining Pearl’s Diner, on 39th St at Wabash Ave, serves buffet or Ala Carte dining and very reasonable prices, but not cocktails or entertainment; just really good food.

    • Truth is an AfricanX Italian cuisine serving, ultra hip, hot spot in Bronzeville, on Pershing Road aka 39th St, just east of State Street.

    • For additional Soul Food options from north to south and near westside, check out: shorturl.at/uBCWZ

Healthy Eating For Living In Abundance

BoxVille Shipping Container Shops 51st St at CTA Green Line Stop

  • Conscious Plates, is a whole new food service concept, based on the late Dr. Sebi’s, widely held, Alkaline Food + Beverage consumption for optimum health theory. https://www.consciousplates.com/

    • Located in a shipping container village, named BoxVille, located on 51St, at the Greenline CTA Train Stop, in Bronzeville. A widely held theory is if one transforms one’s body to an alkaline state, by means of consuming as much Alkaline, high pH foods and beverages as possible. In an alkaline body, disease can not thrive; not even cancer. Acidic consumption leads to a body with low immunity and prone to disease.

  • More Traditional Healthy Food dining options around town are many, including small to large chains and a variety of independent one offs, including:

    • Chains: Protein Bar, Fit Kitchen, Native Foods, Sweet Greens, Farmers Fridge

    • Independents: Chicago Health Foods, Chicago Diner, True Food Kitchen, Left Coast, and more

Views of Restaurants East + South From Center of The Viagra Triangle

  • Rush Street/Gold Coast is where the In-Crowd goes to play; and when I say play I mean Dine and Imbibe. Once the mobbed up players paradise, with show clubs galore; it is now the land of Foo Foo La La restaurant and places to “See the Celebs + Beautiful People; and Be Seen”!!!

    • Rush St, which runs diagonally and intersects with State Street, where it forms a triangular seating area with a small outdoor coffee shop, Cafe Michele’s.

      • This little great meeting, see and be seen spot, is famously known as the “Viagra Triangle”!!! No Explanation forthcoming, without asking.

    • Around the Viagra Triangle is where all of the top Euro, Japanese and USA Lux Autos pull up so the occupants can disembark to wild out er ah I mean enjoy the fine dining of the likes of:

      • Gibson’s for the hearty big portions Steak + Seafood, with everything in between. They have two really Great Pianists and healthy Drink pours.

      • Directly across the street from Gibson’s is a cool Italian ristorante, Nico’s.

      • Carmine’s, no connection to Carmine’s in NYCs Theater District, is the consummate Italiano Dining scene with great in + outdoor seating, where you will experience all of the great Italian favorites; mine is Chicken Vesuvio.

      • Next door is Tavern On Rush, a chic food + beverage establishment, with continental cuisine.

      • Around the corner is LuxBar, a sister establishment of Gibson’s with a more youthful vibe, but just as pricey.

      • My favorite, Dublin’s for the Upscale Dive Vibe, at moderate prices, across State from VT..

      • A half block further north on State Street are, millennial favorite Velvet Taco for on the go moderately priced Dining, a few steps away can be found the Summerset for fine dining and the Deveraux Rooftop Lounge; in the all too cool Viceroy Hotel and next door is one of Chicago’s Pizza greats Lou Malnati.

      • There are many other haute cuisine notables within a block or so including on Oak St La Coloniale for French + Vietnamese Fusion and Fig + Olive a California favorite.

  • Food Trucks are in abundance in the Loop, with a variety of types of cuisines especially Mexican, Pizza, Seafood, Sandwiches, Asian + for the life of me, I don’t know why, but also cupcakes + coffee.

Now That’s Entertainment, “Chicago Style”

The Famous Green Mill Lounge For Classic Jazz

Live Music: From “world class” street and subway musicians to Mega Concerts; Chicago has it all including but not limited to:

  • Bars + Restaurants: with piano acts, karaoke, and big stars in their infancy

  • Small to Mid Sized Spaces: At these spots you can experience Big Names who want to do small and intimate to medium size gigs, to emerging super groups and stars of several genres including:

    • The north side: Rock at Metro + Empty Bottle; Blues at Kingston Mines, Reggae at Wild Hare, Jazz at Green Door, R&B to World Music at Cubby Bear, Emporium (Very Cool)

    • Plisen’s Thalia Hall for International Music

    • The Jazz Showcase in the South Loop

    • On the South House, R&B + Hip Hop at Promontory in Hyde Park

  • Large-Scales: Wintrust Arena, Arie Crown Theater, Orchestra Hall, Auditorium, Chicago Theater host nationally internationally famous and renowned music and other performance artists; with regularity.

  • Mega Places: The central lakefront’s Northerly Island, Near Westside United Center, Ravinia

  • Festivals: Chicago is the Festival Capital of the World with approximately 300 independent neighborhoods, church, cause, music (all types), art, food, crafts, culture festivals and cause events produced in the many city parks and commercial business corridors; mostly from May through September; annually; pandemic not included.

  • My favorite Festivals include:

    • Martin’s Int’l African Caribbean Festival of Life, July + Jerk Vegan + Seafood Fest, September;

    • Hyde Park’s Silver Room Block Party, of 53rd St, in June,

    • Hyde Park Jazz Fest, August

    • Pitchfork for Alt Rock, Riot Fest, for Rock, Montrose Beach Fest and

    • Chicago's biggest annual party is, no doubt, Chicago Pride Parade + Festival hosted by the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce + neighborhood.

  • Did I not mention Chicago’s biggest money clusterf**k, Lollapalooza, every August, Grant Park; count on it.

  • I rarely miss the City of Chicago’s Music Festival Series, all downtown in Grant + Millennium Parks, from May through September: House Music, Blues, Gospel, Taste of Chicago, Jazz, Summer Dance + Weekly Dance in the Park; plus the multiple venue World Music Fests.

  • Choose Chicago publishes the most comprehensive list, by month, of Festivals and Events, which include Festival, Ethnic, Art, Cause Run, Walk + Biking events produced in Chicago: https://bit.ly/3jtqklw

Live Theater: Pre, Post, Off + Never On Broadway opportunities to razzle and dazzle thespian lovers in abundance throughout Chicago. Chicago is considered to be the number one market for independent development, experimental, improvisational and new playwright’s theater; in the USA, most likely in the western hemisphere; possibly in the world. Chicago’s To Venues Include:

  • Broadway in Chicago’s Grand Dame Goodman, CIBC Theater where Lin-Manuel Maranda’sHamilton was launched + ran for 3 years; Cadillac Palace, Nederlander all regularly playing Broadway’s best or soon to be.

  • The most successful independents include Steppenwolf, Victory Garden, Court, Magnificent Mile’s Lookingglass, a David Schwimmer Project, all on Chicago’s northside.

  • Black Ensemble Theater, on Chicago’s north side Uptown neighborhood, where Creator Jackie Taylor and launched award winning tributes to music greats like Jackie Wilson, Marvin Gaye, many others.

Chicago’s Coolest Neighborhoods

Neighborhood Map Hyde Park South to Rogers Park North

North of the River

  • River North, everything from the north side of the river's edge on to about Chicago Ave on the north end and from the Michigan Ave aka the Magnificent Mile on the east end to the River North Branch. More Foo Foo La La Restaurants and Bars than you can count. I have visited several due my pursuits in the Spirit Beverage business and my work as a journalist. Yes I am apologizing. My Favorite is Sunda’s an Filipino Asian Fusion concept, with great food and a drink, featuring a spirit brand I repped.

  • Old Town, Starting at Division St in the near north side, running a block north of North Ave, is our once Hipple enclave with HeadShops (Paraphernalia shops without the legal weed). The Bars and Restaurants, plus Up Down Cigars, Zanies Comedy, Club Ripley’s and Madame Tussauds made this one truly magical strip. But the rising dwarf Star then and Big Star Now is the world famous Second City Playhouse and Improv School. Nowaday it is blocks of Foo Foo La La Bars and Restaurants, many catering to school specific Big Ten Alumni Crowds.

  • East Lakeview, from north of Addison to south of Diversey and Sheffild east to the lake, is the home of Boys’ Town, a top Shopping and Dining destination.

    • However, In June, annually, they let it all out with the USA’s #2 PrideFest + Parade; which attracts about 1 million revelers for “Gaiety and Debauchery”!!! This and many other Fun Time options are hosted, if not produced by the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce.

    • LVECC, the territory of which also includes the young adult playground of Wrigleyville with its mega bars/restaurants; also produces an upscale, family friendly Lakeview East Festival of the Arts and other Culture events.

  • Uptown, from Irving Park on the south to north to about Hollywood and from the lakefront west to Broadway, was once the northside's poorest community characterized as the home of hillbilly’s, off the reservation, indigenous 1st Nation people and everybody seeking to get high. Uptown now is close to being completely gentrified; as are most other neighborhoods the disenfranchised of Chicago have lived.

    • Highlights of Uptown mostly on Broadway at Lawrence Ave, include:

      • the Uptown Theater, with B + C Level Big Name acts from time to time

      • the Green Mill Lounge, a past mob hideout, passage ways and all, but home to world class traditional and avant garde Jazz; with some big names sometimes headlining. It is Chicago's spiritual soul mate to NYC’s Blue Note.

      • Then there is the Aragon Ballroom, Nuff Said.

  • Andersonville, A Top Ten Coolest Neighborhood in Chicago, in 2021, is, of course, the Swedish enclave, with dining and cultural options to match

West of the River

  • Near West, From the west side of the river to about Ashland Ave on the West end, once the home to the food, Produce, Meat and supply providers to Chicago’s independent Grocery and Restaurant businesses, this is the hottest neighborhood for both Food + Beverage, High Moderate to expensive, new hotels, the newest bing the Nobu Hotel, in which I believe Robert DeNiro is a partner. Before the pandemic shut down there was a SoHo House.

  • The original Strip was Randolf, which still has a lot going on, but the real heat nowadays in on block north on Fulton Ave.

  • The Near Westside is also home to a thriving tech Startup and Big Brand scene. Google’s Midwest HQ in there. McDonald’s has transformed what was Oprah’s Harpo Studios to its new World HG, with the help of a wrecking ball.

    • When AfricanX Celebs go, the Chicago powers immediately erase their physical legacies, no matter how much they contributed to Chicago's world class legacy, for which that previous Lil Mayor always took credit. Ask Micheal Jordan. Ooops did I go there! Not Sorry!!!

  • Humboldt Park, Once the community of Chicago's Rich Port aka Puerto Rican people and heritage, again gentrification is encroaching hard. However, with relatively new leadership of the Puerto Rican Community Org. and an outspoken PR Latina State Senator; as well as the Legacy PR Flag Archway the actual Humboldt Park, the gat at On Division St at California ave, and the new life for the PR Parade + Festival, the Puerto Rican culture is still alive and well in the community of Humboldt Park.

  • Wicker Park, the center of which is North Ave of Damen, Ave, which is accessible by the CTA Blue Line train; name the #4 Hipster neighborhoods, in 2014; nothing has changed, it's still very hip.

  • Pilsen + Little Village

Silver Room’s Summer Block Party 53rd St Downtown Hyde Park

South of the River

  • Downtown (the Loop), is park shopping, part dining and imbibing of the spirits, heavily residential with many business buildings converted, a good deal College Campus; but all business.

    • The Financial District is still going strong, although most banks are not out of state or Canadian owned; with the exception of high end Powerhouse Northern Trust Company and the Little Bank that could, and quickly becoming a Big Player; Wintrust Financial; which has one of Chicago’s best event spaces.

      • Chicago’s mighty financial trading markets though all still going strong, especially the Global Dominator CME Group, have mostly gone digital and online, 24/7 365; so no ore hordes of floor traders in the colorful Ice Cream Jackets, filling up restaurants and bars.

    • The Startup Ecosystem of Chicago and CoWorking scene has replaced the floor traders, with those many of whom have their companies equities and futures trade. The Top coworking brand in Chicago is Workbox, which offers great spaces, views, amenities and Cold Beer.

      • However, 1871 is the Granddaddy of them all and the spiritual center and original startup coworking establishment, thanks to an early investment to visionaries including Illinois’ current billionaire Governor JB Priztker.

    • My reason for so much detail on the financial district and Startup Ecosystem, is because the Loop, also has in a sense gentrified and morphed into a land of yet more Foo Foo La La Bars and Restaurants; but there are some remnants of the past.

    • Van Buren the southernmost side of the Loop, including just north on Dearborn, Brando’s Speakeasy, from dearborn west are a few of nostalgic places, Taureaux Tavern, Vino’s Italian, and on wells, to the south are O’Neil’s On Wells and Persona, new but worth the trip.

    • Lake St on the north end of the Loop, are all sorts of Old Monk’s at Wells St, and New Morton’s

    • Wabash Ave have an exciting mix of old and new, from Exchequer + Miller’s Pub, the old but good, as well as Nando’s Peri Peri (South African BBQ Chicken), Flat Top Grille (Western Pick You Ingredients Stir Fry) and many other food concepts, worthy of being given a go.

    • Michigan Ave has great restaurants, especially on rooftops of mostly great hotels and a few bars from the South Loop to the South bank of the river.

    • Then there is the RiverWalk, along the South bank of the River, from Franklin on the west end to Columbus east of Michigan Ave on the east end.

    • In between many a Bar and Restaurant concept including Revival Food Court, my Favorite in the Loop, Boelo Rooftop of Hyatt Centric on Adams St, the legendary Berghoff’s on Adams St

  • South Loop, or as I like to refer to it as Chicago's third or fourth biggest college campus, is dominated mostly by Columbia College, Chicago and Roosevelt University.

  • Bronzeville, is where AfricanXers have called home since the Great Migration, from the fields in the south; Bronzeville.

    • I must clarify, I personally do not use the term Black people, since black does not have a geographical or cultural origin.

    • Bronzeville is the near to mid south east side community which was the pathway to life in Chicago for the many AfricanXers who during the Great Migration of the fifties, left the Jim Crow South for life in the factories in the north; however, it was surrounded by neighborhoods of racist whites.

    • Bronzeville also is where Blues Greats became Great i.e. Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Buddy Guy, etc; Jazz Greats became Greater, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Herbie Hancock; and where R&B, Gospel + House music were born.

  • Hyde Park aka U of Chicago and Obama land, with establishments like:

    • As previously mentioned, Falcon Lounge dive bar, Promontory show place, Silver Room and it's Silver Room Summer Block Party, all mentioned elsewhere in the article.

    • Chant for Asian Spanish fusion + Live Entertainment,

    • Virtue Haute Soul Cuisine,

    • Capri for all things Italiano,

    • Ja Grille for totally authentic Jamaican delights,

    • Killwin’s Ice Cream + Gourmet Chocolates

    • and so much more – Hyde Park is a self-contained do it all hot spot.

PROFESSIONAL TEAM SPORTS FOR MOST PREFERENCES:

Basketball:

  • Chicago Sky, the new and reigning 2021 WNBA Champions! Thank you @CandiseParker + The Chicago Sky Too Live Crew!!!

  • Chicago Bulls, the NBA franchise which transformed USA Sports to Global Sports due to the playing mostly of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pipen; but nor only!!!

Football:

  • Chicago Bears aka Da Bears; boy do they need a new combo of MOnsters of the Midway and Shuffling Crew. They Got the QB, now they need a Head Coach and…!!!

Baseball:

  • Chicago White Sox, American League + Chicago Cubs, National League

Soccer:

  • Chicago Fire, Mens; Chicago Red Stars, Womens

Ice Hockey:

  • Chicago Blackhawks, NHL + Chicago Wolves, AHL

CHICAGO’S LAKEFRONT ATTRACTIONS:

Navy Pier is the #1 tourist and locals attraction in Chicago, and ranks very high in the list of Tourist attractions worldwide.

  • Amenities include numerous dining options from fine cuisine to McDonald’s, a new completed 4 Star hotel, a Children’s Museum, a variety of shops, a mini amusement park with one of the world’s largest ferris wheels, fast boat to multilevel dining and dancing sightseeing cruise options, a constant slate of entertainment, including the a beer garden with cool bands, a professional Shakespeare Theater and a seriously great the View Rooftop Bar and restaurant with in and out door options.

Architecture: A Skyline View from one of the many vantage points, enables the enjoyment of wonderful views on Chicago’s Architecture. day and night Lake Michigan cruises provide breathtaking views of the Skyline.

  • Then there are the options for narrated river cruises that provide fascinating insights into the history of some of the world’s most celebrated architecture. The best vantage points for on shore Skyline Views are North Ave Beach, Navy Pier, Museum Campus, Promontory Point, on Hyde Park’s lakefront.

  • There are also narrated Double decker bus tour options both north and south of the river.

  • You can also book walking tours, online, presented by qualified docents. The Chicago Architecture Society has its museum

Chicago’s lakefront is 22 continuous miles of beautifully sculpted city parks, cultural attractions, including:

  • Museum Campus, featuring Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and my favorite Field Museum of Natural History; as well as a few others:

  • Museum of Science and Industry on the south lakefront end of Hyde Park.

  • Chicago History Museum, on the south east edge of Lincoln Park

  • The Art Institute on Michigan Ave, downtown.

  • Chicago’s dirty Big Secret are 26 Beaches + 10 Boat Harbors: from 79th St in Southshore to Foster Ave Beach in Edgewater, I’ll bet you didn't know that!!! Yep, Chicago in the summer is a “Beach Town”.

  • As a lifelong bicycler, I truly appreciate and use as much as possible the 22 miles of continuous, uninterrupted Biking, Skating, Skateboarding, Running, Walking Paths.

FUN IN, CHICAGO WHEN THERE IS NO, SUN:

  • Millennium Park Ice Skating Rink: November through March, at traditional oval rink, with Skate rentals, on Michigan Ave, three blocks south of the river; sitting just outside the Park Grille and Bar.

  • Millennium Park Ice Ribbon: November through March, you can rent skates and zip around a winding descending path. In the Summer, the same path can be used with roller skates and their three levels of climbing walls, in the center.

  • Christkindl Market: Post Thanksgiving Day till Christmas Eve, in the plaza of Daley Plaza, towards the north end of the Loop, which is south of the river, is a traditional German Holiday Market, with many gift shops and plenty spiced wine, hot chocolate, brews and food; all very traditionally German.

HOW TO GET AROUND:

  • RTA: CTA, Pace + Metra: CTA Train and buses can get you everywhere in Chicago within a couple or few blocks. However, buses not within the central city and north side can be perilous mostly due to waiting at bus stops. The later the more dangerous.

  • Pace Suburban buses are safe for the most part, with the exception of a few south and west suburban routes.

  • Metra trains are great efficient and moderately priced ways of getting through the city and into the close to far suburbs.

  • There are a number of routes both north and south along the shore, mid southeast and mid northeast, more northwest, west and more southwest.

  • Rideshare + Taxis; Taxis drivers are licensed as chauffeurs, bonded + adequately insured, with consistent pricing. Uber + Lyft has none of that and can be a crap shoot, in safety and pricing with its surge pricing system.

  • Walking from about 22nd Street on the south to Chicago’s northern border and into its north border neighbor, Evanston, home of Northwestern University and West to in most parts, Halstad on the west; Chicago is as Walkable as a city can be. It’s no Manhattan, but you can have a ball within those boundaries.

  • CTA Bus Tracker, Estimate Time of Arrival, CTA Trip Planner, RTA Trip Planner, Metra Trip Planner
